Report on ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING & RIBO Seminar – Friday, June 25, 2010
Our Annual General Meeting was held on June 25, 2010 at Diamond Banquet Hall at 6:30 p.m., during which all businesses were successfully transacted in accordance with the Agenda of the meeting.
The following is the minutes of the Annual General Meeting:
MINUTES OF THE ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING OF THE MEMBERS OF THE CANADIAN CHINESE INSURANCE PROFESSIONALS ASSOCIATION, HELD AT DIAMOND BANQUET HALL, FIRST MARKHAM PLACE, UNIT 1, 3225 HIGHWAY 7 EAST, MARKHAM, ONARIO L3R 3P3 AT 6:30 P.M. (TORONTO TIME), ON FRIDAY, JUNE 25, 2010
A quorum was present with 2 proxies received at least one day prior to the Annual General Meeting and 40 members personally present at the start of the meeting.
The President, Anthony Chan, called the meeting to order and the following businesses were transacted at the meeting:
1. To receive the report on the operations and activities of the Association.
The President presented to the meeting the operations and activities of the Association during the period from May 2009 to April 2010 with 138 paid members. These activities were Continued Education Credit Courses, Golf Tournament & Dinner, Woodbine Racetrack Dinner, Christmas Ball, Chinese New Year Dinner and SRDC & Road Safety Challenge.
Moved to be accepted by Norman Lai, seconded by Jenny Chow, all in favor with no objection, all member unanimously accepted the report.
2. To consider, and if thought fit, approve and adopt the minutes of the last Annual General Meeting held on Friday June 26, 2009.
Minutes of the last Annual General Meeting held Friday, June 26, 2009 was reviewed by the members.
Leon Jackson moved to approve the minutes and was seconded by Albert Lee, all in favor with no objection, motion carried.
3. To receive the Review Engagement Report of the annual financial statements of the Association for the financial year ended April 30, 2010, as prepared and presented by our Honorary Accountant Ms. Magdalene Wong, AICB to members.
Norman Lai moved to approve the Report, and was seconded by Mars Wong, all in favor with no objection, motion carried.
4. To appoint Ms. Magdalene Wong, ACIB to prepare the Review Engagement Report of the annual financial statement of the Association for the financial year ending April 30, 2011.
Mars Wong moved and was seconded by Alan Kan, all in favor with no objection. All members unanimously agreed the appointment.
5. There is no other business being transacted at the meeting. The President declared the meeting adjourned.

Our AGM was preceded by a RIBO Accredited Seminar, led by Mr. Joseph Lam, LLB, Barrister and Solicitor, Partner of Krylov & Company, during which he discussed the details of the Auto Reform that is going to be effective September 1, 2010 and how our customers and our profession are affected by it from a Lawyer’s point of view. Joseph has also provided us with practical suggestions as to how Errors and Omissions can be avoided in our day to day operation as insurance brokers. . Many of our members have also participated in the discussions and opinions have been actively shared. Thank you very much, Joseph for your excellent seminar.
Following the formal part of the evening Event, comes our casual networking dinner, with a concluding classical lucky draw. Congratulations to the winners.
